This is my latest paintings: MANU (36x36 inches). I was exploring a Rothko like technique for the background using many thin layers of paint to create depth when all of a sudden my hand started painting lines without me realizing it. I wasn’t happy at first as I wanted to work on the background more but I guess there is no arguing with inspiration.
MANU brings me back to my childhood in Paris. I was a big fan of a trio of comics called “Les Inconnus” and each year they had a tv special with lots of sketches. This Painting reminds me of a particular sketch called: hey manu tu descends. The image of Manu at the window is what this painting is to me. The painting is a time machine to the early 90’s where my friends were everything and school was not my favorite. The sketch is on youtube if you are curious and speak french.
